Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer

The Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design and analysis of all products and supporting documentation required for both program execution and internal product development involving DoD customers. This position will also support state of the art design and simulation capability in the mechanical design area, to include large and small scale design, thermal analysis, structural analysis as well as manufacturing and procurement recommendations. The selected candidate will support design to cost, design for test, and design for quality processes from design inception through production test. Will support proposals as required and may provide project/program management support as needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Supporting complex Mechanical engineering design and integration projects.
• Providing technical support and detailed contribution to system performance specification to ensure integrity and completeness of subsequent design.
• Analyzing cost versus performance of critical system components and subsystem design options by performing trade-off studies and market analyses to ensure maximum benefit to cost.
• Leading and supporting PDR/CDR/PRR meetings during project development phases.
• Ensuring utilization of the engineering design checklists during program development.
• Assisting Business Development with pursuit and capture of new business opportunities including proposal writing and review.
• Providing schedule and cost management to assigned goals, updating managers on cost and schedule data.
• Developing detailed Statements of Work, Interface Specifications, and Test Requirement Analysis.
• Communicating complicated or difficult information clearly and diplomatically with all levels of employees; written and verbal communications must be polished and diplomatic.
• Making data-based recommendations to enhance Operational Excellence supporting design improvements, material obsolescence, and equipment obsolescence.
• Working independently and in a team environment on directed tasks reporting performance to schedule and budget.
• Supporting technical proposal preparation and serve as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews.
• Travel up to 10% with periods of extended travel during product validation activities and ability to work off/extended hours when required.
• Participating in validation activities at factory, government, commercial facilities and ranges; will develop and present validation status reports to customer representatives.

A qualified candidate will have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other comparable technical discipline and a minimum of 8 years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Mastery of Mechanical design principles with the ability to use analysis CAD tools, specifically Solidworks, minimum 6 years of experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in each of the following: thermal, air flow, and vibration analysis.
• Exceptional motivation, organization, team building and communication skills.
• Ability to change and be open to new ideas and taking on new responsibilities.
• Adept at handling pressure and uncertainty and adjusting work plans to meet changing company/department needs.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• An advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Mastery of mechanical design principles with the ability to use analysis CAD tools, specifically Solidworks, minimum10 years of experience.
• 6 Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
• Experience with developing mechanical hardware for signals intelligence, tactical radio and SATCOM platforms.
• Experience preparing, planning and performing Government field tests.

Staff Systems Engineer

The Staff Systems Engineer will be responsible for overall technical performance, development schedule, and budget on significant communication and/or electronic warfare system developments in coordination with the Program Manager. We will consider candidates from Staff to Principal level (15+ years of experience) for this opening.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Creating technical requirements documents and statements of work (SOWs) for significant key supplier subcontracts and provide technical leadership to ensure program performance and schedule requirements are met.
• Coordinating development activities to include design, integration, formal test and transition to production.
• Acting as the central customer point of contact on technical issues and will be a significant contributor and presenter at all internal and customer technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc).
• Contributing to ECP proposals and acting as a key customer contact as required in coordination with the Program Manager.
• Proven ability to advance the state-of-the-art in product or system designs with positive business results.
• Identifying problems, understanding constraints and synthesizes the solutions.
• May be called upon to provide technical, cost and schedule management for the engineering tasks associated with a very large program, or a particularly difficult project.
• Providing technical direction for projects.
• Supporting customer interaction with presentations and white papers, supporting proposal and IRAD efforts.
• Providing schedule and cost management to assigned goals and updating cost and schedule data.
• Preparing proposal materials and may serve as a red team reviewer.
• Reviewing product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements and related specifications.

A qualified candidate will have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or other technical field and at least 7 years related experience or equivalent combination.
• Minimum 7 years related systems engineering industry experience in either Communication Systems, COMINT, SIGINT, MASINT or ELINT.
• Outstanding communications skills both written and oral as well as presentation skills to communicate information effectively to both internal and external customers, managers and technical staff.
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced, agile, results-oriented environment as an individual contributor and as an effective team player.
• Able to quickly grasp the “big picture”, identify critical project/system areas based on key stakeholders needs and assist in planning a project to effectively address those needs using an understanding of business operation and management principles.
• Must demonstrate the ability to sustain a great amount of attention to detail to meet both engineering and business needs.
• Organizational skills to work with a variety of people in different disciplines and working from multiple locations on tasks involving vast amounts of rapidly changing information.
• Strong interpersonal skills to help negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders such as customers, program management, product management, and engineering.
• May require the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret common government specifications, scientific and technical journals and government procurement packages.
• Must be able to understand job duties and responsibilities, have necessary job, technical and equipment skills/knowledge and keep current with new developments.
• Able to research, analyze data and prepare reports.
• Strong knowledge of computer applications.
• Business skills and business knowledge required. Complete understanding and current knowledge of industry practices.

Desired skills:
• Systems Design Engineering, Systems Requirements Management and Project Engineering Management (including budget, schedule, and EVMS) experience on Military development contracts.
• Experience executing development contracts as the Chief Engineer, IPT lead, or Project Engineer on programs requiring the technical management of several large key supplier subcontracts.

Preferred experience:
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Program of Record (POR) experience as PE.
• Experience with mechanical and electrical packaging design for use in Army/Marine manportable operation.
• Experience with smoke obscuration technology and design of smoke systems used by the Army.
• Experience with technical scope and cost management of major subcontractors ($1-3M) on Army POR prime contracts.
• Ability to contribute to electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering design activities.
