Monica will present an overview of different types of power plants – present development and the plants of the future (like fusion, solar, combined cycle and more), the cost of power generation and how that becomes the dollar amount we see each month for our power bills.

Monica Hansel spent 7 years working in power generation, from assisting in film cooling experiments at the Center for Advanced Turbine and Energy Research at UCF to her most recent work in gas turbines at Siemens Energy. At Siemens, she worked with gas turbines, combined cycle power plants and concentrated solar power plants. She also filed five patents on power plant technology with her colleagues at Siemens and received her professional engineer certification in the state of Florida in January 2016. Her favorite part of the time working in power generation was knowing that she contributed to the delivery of reliable power to places around the world that may have not had this previously.
