Volunteer Opportunity: Hour of Code – December 8th, 2016

sheryl-sandbergMcNair Middle School in Rockledge will be participating in the “Hour of Code” this year on Dec 8th!

If you are interested in volunteering they would welcome the extra hands to help the kids work through the tutorials.

The goal is to have a 100% student participation meaning that everyone of the students at the school will have completed one hour of code by the end of the week.

Wow! That’s Engineering! Workshop – Saturday, October 15th, 2016


Girls in 7th to 10th grades, be part of Wow! That’s Engineering! Experience the creativity and innovation of engineering and technology. Meet women engineers and technologists and hear first-hand about these exciting careers. Participate in 5 hands-on projects such as programming robots, conducting crime scene-like investigations, and making cosmetics.

Girls can become engineers, too! This workshop will provide girls, 7th to 10th grades, with opportunities to do fun hands-on experiments related to several different engineering career fields. They also will be able to find out what different types of engineers do and will meet women engineers who will talk about how they became engineers. The Society of Women Engineers, Space Coast Section, also needs volunteers to help with modules and other activities the day of the event.

When: Saturday, October 15th 2016, 9:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
Where: Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, 5625 Holy Trinity Drive, Melbourne, FL, 32940.

The cost per student is $30 and includes lunch, drink, snack, shirt and supplies.

Student registrations must be postmarked by, September 28th, 2016. (Registration may close earlier if we reach our maximum capacity.)

***Donation Drive***

NearlyDonate brevard schools foundation 2,000 students were identified as homeless in Brevard Public Schools last year.
Many of these are girls who cannot afford feminine hygiene products such as tampons, pads, razors, soap, shampoo, new underwear, or deodorant.
SWE Space Coast will be collecting donations at our Wow! That’s Engineering! Event and at our upcoming meetings on behalf of Brevard Schools Foundation.
Please bring a donation item from the products above and help make a difference.
